Welcome to the Rainforest
Every year our first grade class makes a journey into the rainforest. The students read books to learn about the animals that inhabit the different levels of the rainforest. We build a rainforest in our room. The students research animals they want to inhabit our rainforest. It is delightful to watch as they read, then measure the size of their animal, and finally draw and color their animal. The students then choose that special place in the rainforest where they want to place their animal. Our forest hangs above our heads with snakes dangling from vines, spiders crawling on a leaf, macaws landing on a branch, or a jaguar hiding, watching for its prey. This environment makes for some exciting learning. Students then produce a report on a special animal that interests them. It is a great place to learn!
